CRYSIS WARS IN THE FBE LABS

HI ALL,

AFTER A BIT OF A FALSE START (AND WITH SOME HELP FROM SEBASTIAN AT BECU) WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO CONFIGURE ALL OF THE COMPUTERS IN THE LABS TO WORK WITH CRYSIS WARS AND PLAYUP CORRECTLY. WE HAD TO TURN OFF THE UAC SETTINGS (JUST LIKE YOU HAVE TO DO AT HOME).

THIS IS HOW I USE THE SETUP IN THE LABS:

1. HIT THE WINDOWS START BUTTON AND TYPE "EDITOR" (WITHOUT THE QUOTATION MARKS) INTO THE SEARCH PROGRAMS AND FILES WINDOW.

2. THAT BRINGS UP THE SANDBOX2 SP EDITOR ... (SP STANDS FOR SINGLE PLAYER)

3. NAVIGATE TO THE CRYSIS WARS GAME FILE AND ADD AN OBJECTS FOLDER AND THEN ADD A z3208984_Objects FOLDER INSIDE THAT (THIS IS THE ONE WITH YOUR STUDENT NUMBER AND THE ONE YOU'LL HAND IN)

THE FULL PATH IS HERE: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis Wars\Game

4. NAVIGATE TO THE LEVELS FOLDER AND ADD A FOLDER CALLED z3208984_Levels (AGAIN WITH YOUR STUDENT NUMBER, AND THE ONE YOU'LL HAND IN)

5. START UP GOOGLE SKETCHUP AND SET THE PLUGINS>PLAYUP>PREFERENCES TO POINT TO YOUR OBJECTS FOLDER ABOVE, AND SET THE RC PATH TO THE ONE IN CRYSIS WARS (NOT CRYSIS).

6. READY TO GO.

IT TAKES LESS THAN 5 MINUTES ONCE YOU'VE DONE IT A FEW TIMES.

REMEMBER TO COPY THE LEVELS AND OBJECTS FOLDER TO YOUR MEMORY STICK BEFORE YOU LOG OFF ... OTHERWISE IT WILL ALL DISAPPEAR!

ADVICE FOR EXPERIMENT 1 SUBMISSION

HI ALL,

SOME LAST MINUTE ADVICE FROM ME REGARDING YOUR EXPERIMENT 1 SUBMISSION:

1. MAKE SURE YOUR DRAWINGS LOOK THEIR BEST WHEN UPLOADED TO YOUR BLOG ... BLURRY, DISCOLORED DRAWINGS WILL BE MARKED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY. IT'S VERY OBVIOUS WHEN THEY ARE BAD, SO IF THEY ARE IT COMES ACROSS LIKE YOU DIDN'T CARE...

2. ONE OR TWO OVERALL SHOTS OF YOUR ARCHITECTURE IS ENOUGH, TRY TO CAPTURE IMAGES THAT IMMERSE THE VIEWER IN YOUR SCHEME.

3. ADD CAPTIONS TO SOME OF YOUR POSTS THAT DESCRIBE WHY YOU ARE SHOWING US YOUR SCHEME FROM THIS PARTICULAR POINT OF VIEW (OR WHY A SECTION WAS CHOSEN, ETC). MAKE SURE THE TEXT DOESN'T CONTAIN SPELLING MISTAKES OR GRAMMATICAL ERRORS ... HAVE SOMEONE WHO IS GOOD AT WRITING TAKE A LOOK AT IT BEFORE YOU POST. DON'T TURN THE CAPTIONS INTO ESSAYS HOWEVER; KEEP THEM SHORT AND TO THE POINT (LESS THAN 50 WORDS IS A GOOD LIMIT).

4. DON'T TRY TO SHOW TOO MUCH WITH THE ANIMATIONS, FOCUS ON A KEY ELEMENT OF YOUR SCHEME WITH EACH ONE. IF THE CAMERA ZOOMS AROUND ALL OVER THE PLACE ALL IT DOES IS MAKE YOUR TUTOR FEEL SICK AND CAN BE CONFUSING.
